Communiqué

To: Lac des Mille Lacs First Nation Band & Community Members

From: Chief and Council

Date: November 3, 2015

LAC DES MILLE LACS FIRST NATION: Chief and Council would like to communicate that the fall feasting of our traditional ancestral lands was held at the end of October 2015. Under the spiritual guidance of Elder Gilbert Smith, the annual fall ceremony was held at the Community Round House.

“As your elected leader, I am grateful and humbled to participate in this ceremony to ensure we are continuing to honour our lands and our ancestors,” said Chief Whitecloud. “Our ceremonies are what assisted and led us back to our traditional lands and they continue to guide us in a good way.”

In addition to the fall feasting, a separate ceremony was facilitated by Elder Smith to honour the life of a young Eagle who was discovered just prior to the feast. The significant teaching brought forward was that the young Eagle was gifting our community with life in a good way.

“It is a very special day for the First Nation, and for the Leadership who were gifted with the Eagle,” said Elder Gilbert Smith. “The Eagle brings gifts of life and strength to the Community and to the Leadership.”

Our members are encouraged to feast their own regalia, drums, feathers, sacred bundles, etc., in the spring and fall, and whenever required in their personal lives.

The Fall Feast invite was posted prior to the ceremony on the LDMLFN website. Because some events are very time sensitive and contingent on coordinating the schedules of several individuals, we encourage community members to check the site regularly.
